Mechatronics- The
future of engineering
Mechatronics, IoT and
Industry 4.0
Do you know the term "mechatronics"
recently? It feels like a word made recently, but it actually has a
history of over 50 years. In England, the Master's Course in Mechatronics was
opened in 1985, and three years later, the first graduate was produced in 1988.
Mechatronics other
field approach
Why has mechatronics become so important now?
In the
background, mechatronics is used as a technology used in IoT and Industry 4.0.
Mechatronics
refers to the field of thinking that combines electronics, mechanical, and
computing.
Also, mechatronics is used in most products and factory
facilities in this world.
The idea of mechatronics blurs the line between electronics and mechanical.

However, it's quite normal from an engineering point of view.
An increasing number of people are coding various
applications using Arduino.
Scale of mechatronics
When it comes to motor control, mechatronics are used in all
sizes, from large 3-phase inverters to small microprocessor control
boards. Now, it is also possible to build one IoT system by combining all
machine tools such as laser cutters, presses, punching tools, and conveyor
systems.
If my specialty is mechatronics, it will be great news
because it will increase employment and demand. It will further expand the
possibilities of robotics, aerospace, motion control and engineering.
I've read the literature that IoT and Industry 4.0 are the
last days of mechatronics. However, I do not think that it is a good
opportunity for mechatronics to evolve. It is only a matter of time before
we start thinking about AR (augmented reality) in most of the
mechatronics.
Then I will confirm the necessity of mechatronics engineering
from the medium of IoT and data.
Data is king
Here, the key to IoT is data, but now let's consider how that
data is collected.
First, consider where to output to get consistent output. Once you have the data, what to do with it and how to process it into informative information. These are done to save the cost of the system. This completely affects the multidisciplinary world of mechatronics.

This simple operation improves efficiency and reduces
unnecessary costs. Further, since it is possible to reduce the number of
failures and to order parts before they are broken, it is possible to minimize
wasteful time such as repair time.
I wondered what automation is. It is a technology that
automates control, movement, measurement, reaction, application (electronics,
electricity, mechanical, software IT), control, analysis, etc. using various
technologies. And I wondered if mechatronics was the heart of it.
